[A little background: I studied Applied Linguistics and earned a master’s degree and a TESOL certificate. I was in this program when I met Brent and graduated shortly after we married. It was my dream to travel the world and teach English to support my travels. Alas, that dream was put on hold and has now morphed into wanting to travel the world with my family. One place on our bucket list is Japan. Okay, it’s actually the first place on our list! Brent lived there as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and has brought the language, food and culture into our family. We are in love!]
When I received the press release info about the Super Simple Learning DVD I squealed with delight. Super Simple Learning is a company that was started by English language teachers who were teaching young children in Japan. My dream playing out in their lives! They use songs to teach a variety of topics to young language learners. They have several CDs out that cover a wide range of topics from Halloween and Christmas to animals and letters. They have created a huge collection of songs that are easy to learn and easy to teach with actions that cover all the preschool themes. The Super Simple Learning website offers a lot of resources for teachers and has coloring sheets and craft ideas for kids.
I figured the Super Simple Learning DVD would be a great fit for Scott (2). It has 15 songs that are a combination of people and animation. The songs include classic favorites like 5 Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed and BINGO. We watched it just before the girls came home from school one day. It wasn’t quite done when Sammi (7) and Elli (5) got home and they finished it with us. Then all three of them asked to watch it again! They’ve asked to watch it a couple of times since then, too. I was surprised that even Sammi was interested in watching it, but she has enjoyed it.
Since watching this DVD, Scott has become obsessed with the 5 little monkeys and we sing it every night. He makes up all sorts of variations like jumping on a bridge or jumping on Myrtle Beach (where w went for fall break.) I love seeing the inner workings of his mind as he comes up with more and more ways to change the song. It’s been a real creative outlet for him.
Here’s a Halloween-themed song from Super Simple Learning. This is not on the DVD, but it is timely with Halloween next week! You can view their YouTube channel and see all the songs they’ve uploaded there. They recently hit 1,000,000,000 views and are excited to celebrate, hence the giveaway!
