We’ve looked at quotes on play from leading scientists in the fields of play and human development. Today we’ll turn to a contemporary author for insight on play. Diane Ackerman is a prolific and profound writer both of poetry and nonfiction. Her book A Natural History of the Senses was made into a mini series by NOVA which Diane Ackerman was invited to host.
Her passion for nature and human nature combined with her experience in writing and discussing these topics have made her a master of her craft. I love that through all this, she has books she’s written for children. She reaches out to little ones and invites them to also develop an interest in nature and human nature. I am excited to share her books with our kids. Sammi has loved bats for a few years and Diane Ackerman wrote Bats: Shadows in the Night. She also has a collection of poetry titled Animal Senses which I also think will be a big hit with our crew.
This week’s quote on play, from Diane Ackerman, is “Play is the brain’s favorite way of learning.”
How do you see your little one learning through play?
