Fall is in the air! We took a hike in Cumberland National Park and saw red leaves falling from trees. I love this time of year when the weather finally cools off, parks clear out as older kids go back to school and gardens are ready to harvest. To celebrate Because Babies Grow Up is hosting a Fall Fling to celebrate and welcome fall. It’s been fun to see all the back-to-school celebrating, but we feel a little out of touch with that since our children aren’t in school. The Fall Fling is meant to bring the celebrating to little ones with fun stuff just for them.
For the next two weeks, we’ll be discussing new products, music and activities. Each day you’ll find something fun to celebrate fall and help your little ones make the transition from summer to fall. We want to hear how you celebrate fall, too. Each Friday I’ll collect all the Fall Fling posts from your blogs and highlight them here. I was inspired to find more gown-up style kids’ music after the positive feedback on the post about For the Kids. I didn’t have to go very far to find the band Milkshake who releases a brand new CD (their fourth) today! They offered us a CD to review and we jumped at the chance to hear the sounds of a rock band turned kids’ music band.
We got the CD on our way out the door to the grocery store. Now that we live in rural Tennessee, a drive to the grocery store and back was enough time to hear almost the entire CD. We danced, bopped our heads and even chimed in on the chorus of a couple songs that were pretty easy to learn. I think my favorite part of the initial listen was the first song. It’s energetic, catchy and fun then there’s a guitar solo. It’s perfect.
After listening to it quite a few times now, we find ourselves singing You Did It! anytime those words are appropriate for our situation. This is a CD our whole family has enjoyed together. I’m interested, too, in going back to their earlier albums. The band turned from indie rock to kids’ music when band members became parents. Their first CD was made when their children were babies/toddlers and so it has great appeal to that age group. As their children have grown, so has the music and themes of the songs. I think the girls will love to grow up with this band!

Another Utah giveaway, but it’s to one of my FAVORITE places so I just have to do it! Discovery Gateway in no way is sponsoring this giveaway. It’s just from ME to YOU because I love this place.
Discovery Gateway is THE best museum for little ones in Utah. They are designed to engage, enthrall, and enlarge the minds of little ones. Seriously, little as in starting at age 1! The entire first floor is dedicated to imaginative play as well as role playing activities. They have a kid-sized village complete with store, home, construction zone, farm, gas station and mail courier system! But Sammi’s favorite part was the Water Play area. She has so much fun watching the water move through various funnels, colanders and other contraptions.
Oh, and let’s not forget the ball area. Remember the ball pool at Showbiz Pizza (now Chuck E. Cheese) where you could jump in with the plastic balls? Well, this is SO much better. The same balls, but now they go up in a vacuum tube and whirl around along various paths before coming back down, just to be scooped up by little hands into plastic tubs and carried off on another adventure. I think this area might be Sammi’s all-time favorite.
I’ve only mentioned the first floor and only the activities that are designed for the youngest of visitors, but there’s a whole host of activities designed for older ones and even things that amuse adults. Upstairs they also have science lab presentations on occasion that are highly engaging and interactive. Discovery Gateway Children’s Museum is definitely a must-see for the whole family!
I’m giving away a 4-pack of tickets to Discovery Gateway. Admission begins at age 1, so only tiny ones are free. This family pack of tickets is the ideal way to explore the museum. Bring a lunch and eat out on the helicopter deck off the second floor!
