You have decided that your kids have finally reached the age that is ideal for going on an airplane and fly to somewhere fun and relaxing. Since this is their first trip on an airplane and your first time traveling with them there are a few things that would be worth noting.
Traveling with the kids is fun and exciting. As parents we love to see their little faces light up with joy. Giving our kids happiness is a big part of the joys of parenting, but it’s not always easy to travel with children. They can get rambunctious when they are confined to a small space and forced to spend several hours in the airport and on the plane. Still, it can be done. Here are five family-friendly ideas to make your travel adventure fall in to place with ease and grace.
1. Limit How Much You Pack
You are allowed to bring carry-on luggage, but you they will have to measure up and weigh a certain amount according to the policy of the airline. These measurements and weight vary, so it is a good idea to check with the airlines a couple of weeks prior to traveling. You will need to have carry-on luggage because you will need items to occupy the children with while traveling. Packing the items in carry-on luggage will make the trip go more smoothly. If the kids are busy and happy, then the parents can relax. This will make for a much more pleasant trip.
2. Protect Your Information
If using a Wi-Fi connection be aware that you are using a connection that is not secured. There is quite a bit of identify theft going on and you will need to protect yourself and your family. Always be aware of entering your username and password or credit card information. Never use your date of birth when creating a password. Try not to use the same code twice. This would make it too easy to be the victim of identity theft. There are special tools, like Lifelock, that can be used to prevent this from happening by monitoring your internet usage and offer you credit card alerts.
3. Be Prepared for Security Checks
The airport will have security measures that must be upheld. You will need to pass through a metal detector gate and put your belongings through an x-machine. Do not bring anything that may be suspicious. It could delay your trip. Go through the gate quickly, as your belongings travel through the x-ray machine. When completed gather your things quickly and move off to the side. You can straighten your belongings out and help to keep the line flowing if you do this.
4. Keep the Kids Busy
Bring plenty of activities for the kids to play with. In order to fit in to carry-on luggage you will have to choose carefully. Some ideas are paper and pen, books, MP3 players, iPads and/or e-readers. Bring whatever they show favoritism for and pack that item providing it is a reasonable size.
5. Pack Lots of Snacks
Since you have that handy carry-on bag you will have plenty of room to pack snacks and an extra change of clothing for the kids. Try to bring items that do not create too much of a mess. Bring paper towels and wet wipes too. Since kids tend to get dirty a clean change of clothing in your carry-on bag is essential.
You are now ready to make the big move in planning that perfect family vacation. Armed with knowledge, you are ready to go. Remember to make the most out of your vacation because your child’s first vacation is something you can cherish as it does not happen every day. You can earn extra miles towards your trip when you book your flight with American Airlines. They are teaming up with LifeLock to offer a special promotion to preferred customers. It should be chock full of memories of fun, love, and laughter!
