We are so excited to have Aaron Nigel Smith as a new sponsor of Because Babies Grow Up. We received Everyone Loves To Dance a few weeks ago and it has been a lifesaver! I turn in on every day while I’m making dinner and it gets the girls moving, singing, and most importantly, out of the kitchen! I love to listen to it while I’m cooking, too, because it’s just so fun.
Aaron Nigel Smith has been quite busy recently touring with the Ziggy Marley Family Time Tour, Between the Lions Live, NEA Read Across America Tour. Let me tell you, after all that, he has got kids down pat! His voice and inflection, his lyrics and the energy of his music all appeal to the youngest of listeners, and even on up to grown ups. His music has also received the NAPPA and iParenting awards. When I showed Sammi this video, she loved it instantly. Grab your little one and enjoy!
By far my favorite song is the title song, Everyone Loves to Dance. But we have also really enjoyed Simon Says. We used the song to teach Sammi how to play the game. We had so much fun. Aaron Nigel Smith will be touring later this year and I bet he’s a show worth taking your little ones to. I’m hoping he comes somewhere close to us so we can go see him (Please! Please!)

Oooh, I’ll have to check it out – I like the Ziggy Marley Family Time CD.
Thankfully C is very good at playing on her own, but when she’s in a Mummy-play-with-me-now mood right before supper, we often sing songs together, I get her to help me cook, we spell with letters on the fridge, or we play with her grocery game. With those activities, I can get supper ready and talk to her about the game or song, without sitting next to her all the time, so I can split my attention between her and supper-prep! She’s also great at (partially) setting the table, which is a help!
(This is her grocery game, which she loves to play with at home! http://www.littletoadstools.com/)
That CD looks really fun!
As for dinnertime, sometimes they help, sometimes I have a craft for them to do, and on a particularly bad day I just let them watch TV.
Playdough and often they help collect things for me.
Sometimes they play great together on their own, but other times they are very snacky and are constantly asking for crackers. Sadly, I usually give in so that I can make dinner in peace.
I usually am juggling dinner for the babies as well as making dinner for the older ones so my oldest usually helps with the babies and the two in the middle are usually running wild! Sometimes I give in and let them watch a cartoon we’ve recorded but then I can’t get them to help if I need it. Sometimes I’ll have E read stories to C and M.
when in doubt get take out….just kidding
let them help and worry about the mess later

I’ve suggested this book to purchase at our local library! I keep my little one happy with a casserole of rice with spoons and cups. It’s a little messy, but I have to sweep under her chair after supper anyway
